Bob Crumley, Founder and CEO of Founder’s Hemp and founder and Chairman of the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association, received the Golden Hemp Leaf Award at the 1st annual Carolina Hemp Fest hosted in Raleigh NC on August 31, 2018.
Excited about the opportunity to receive this award, Crumley stated,
“I am really pleased with the progression of the industry here in North Carolina.
This award validates the movement for us here at Founder’s and the
NCIHA. It excites me to be a part of developing a new industry in our state
and to receive this reward is like icing on the cake.”
The re-introduction of hemp across America is beginning to take shape, however hemp continues to struggle with a stigma as it’s commonly mistaken for marijuana. Bob stated, “Hemp is not marijuana. These are two drastically different strains of cannabis. Hemp has very low to no trace of
THC, whereas Marijuana has high amounts of THC – the psychoactive compound that gives you the “high”. It’s this common misconception that has the Hemp industry driven to make change.”
Since 2014, Crumley has been crucial in the development of the NC Hemp Industry co-writing the original Hemp Statute, developing the Association that led the legislative efforts and helping to train law enforcement officials across North Carolina in the differences between Hemp Cannabis and Marijuana Cannabis.
When we asked Crumley about how he first became interested in Hemp, he replied, “I lost three of my friends to cancer. When you personally witness a friend or family go through something like that, it is human nature to want to make their life or situation a bit easier. Hemp may not kill cancers, but it certainly helps throughout the treatment and recovery process by alleviating discomfort associated with chemotherapy and other cancer treatments.”
History shows that all four of the original US Presidents were hemp farmers. Crumley says that is why he named his company, Founder’s Hemp, to pay homage to them and their efforts. “It is indeed wonderful that just this year, Mount Vernon, President Washington’s home place received a special permit in Virginia and planted 1,000 Hemp plants in the exact same soil! That was a special day. We, the hemp industry, are here to stay providing consumers with high quality products, farmers with a new profitable crop and our state with jobs.”
